Why is this in the news?
ISRO has shared updates on the qualification tests for the Gaganyaan crew module and its uncrewed precursor missions.
Mission objective
To demonstrate the capability to send a crew of three to a low Earth orbit of about 400 km for a short mission and bring them back safely to a predefined splashdown site at sea.
Key building blocks
- Human-rated launch vehicle (HLVM3).
- Crew Escape System, tested through Test Vehicle missions.
- Environmental Control and Life Support System.
- Uncrewed orbital flights, including one carrying the humanoid robot Vyommitra.
